Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-The Frist Art Museum will host a celebration of Black History Month at the Frist Art Museum After Five event Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The event will feature live music, engaging tours, and delightful experiences in the galleries and Frist Café.

    Features include:

    • Music by Nick Tabron who makes music that encompasses sounds from slide guitar and lively, upbeat production to stripped down, soulful performances—just his powerful vocals accompanied by guitar. Pulling from personal experiences and the call to spread positivity, Tabron seeks to inspire people for generations to come. His most recent single, “Brown Eyes,” has been described as a heartfelt, unexpected jolt of optimism.
    • A thirty-minute docent-led exhibition tour focused on Carving a New Tradition: The Art of LaToya M. Hobbs; a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art and a founding member of Black Women of Print, an artistic collective aimed at rendering the work of Black women printmakers—past, present, and future—visible. Her monumental woodcarving Carving Out Time anchors this exhibition and highlights her ongoing explorations of Black womanhood, identity, and artistic legacy that reverberate through the other artworks on view.
    • A Tour and Sketch: African American Artists in Southern/Modern;  a gallery tour exploring Southern/Modern presented by artist Ashley Mintz. Learn about different African American artists throughout the exhibition and join us at the end of the tour to sketch from some of the artwork.
